Collective Ownership and Governance Model

Tambatra is a social enterprise built on a unique model of collective ownership. It is owned by the very producers who supply it: the producer federations hold an 80% majority stake, while the NGO Fanamby holds the remaining 20%. This ensures that the farmers themselves are the primary decision-makers and the ultimate beneficiaries of the company’s success.

Producer Network and Local Structure

Based in the Soanierana Ivongo district, Tambatra operates through a structured network :

  • 2,500 active members form the heart of our community.
  • These members are organized into 20 local associations at the fokontany (village) level.
  • These associations are grouped into three regional federations, each representing a specific commune.

Transparency and the Bottom-Up Governance Approach

We believe in a “bottom-up” approach to ensure every member is heard. Our governance is designed to be transparent and representative

  • At the Association level: Members share their ideas and feedback.
  • At the Federation level: These ideas are refined and consolidated.

At the Board level: The Board is composed of the Presidents and Vice-Presidents from each of the three federations, ensuring that every region has a voice at the highest level. They meet at least once per quarter to translate these insights into strategic decisions that ensure the smooth operation of the entire structure.
