TAMBATRA: A Malagasy Partnership for Unity

TAMBATRA, meaning “Unity” in Malagasy, was founded in 2020 through a partnership between the Livelihoods Fund for Family Farming and the Malagasy NGO Fanamby.

The project that established the foundation of Tambatra received initial funding from the Livelihoods Fund for Family Farming (L3F), involving three long-standing Livelihoods investors and vanilla buyers (Danone, Mars, and Firmenich).

Sustainable Supply Chain Model & Investment Support

The unique model of this fund is to finance investments in sustainable supply chains while securing 10 years purchase commitments from buyers (2017-2027). Consequently, Tambatra benefited from critical investment support including the planting of vanilla vines for 2,500 producers and the establishment of a vanilla curing facility with an annual capacity of 40 tonnes while securing its export market during its initial years of operation.

The vanilla curing facility is located in Andrangazaha (Soanieriana Ivongo), the plant has been operational since 2020 and has held an export license since 2023.
